The Cancer of Greed

Whoa, whoa, whoa, ho, ho, ho hold up, hey, hey, hey, hey, list, list, listen, listen, listen up, yo, yo, yo, yo, stop, stop, stop, stop, wai, wai, wait, wait, wait, no, no, no, no, hey, hey, whoa, whoa, ho, ho, ho, hold up, stop, stop, stop, no, no, whoa, whoa, hey, hey, ho, ho, ho, yo, yo, yo, hold up now. That is an example of the “Tracey and Friends” talk radio show from noon to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday on WSOM-AM 600 radio in Salem, Ohio.  That is what you hear Tracey and the Friends doing to callers that disagree with them. It is not a talk show as much as a shout over callers show. If they agree with you they will let you go on and on. The problem is that if you agree with them you are a candidate for a lobotomy.

It’s hard to believe a woman this combative was on a school board. Who would want to work or be around someone who has zero respect for someone else’s views? The answer to that question is the area GOP. So now the party of no can expand into the party of, whoa, whoa, whoa, ho, ho, ho hold up, hey, hey, hey, hey, list, list, listen, listen, listen up, yo, yo, yo, yo, stop, stop, stop, stop, wai, wai, wait, wait, wait, no, no, no, no, hey, hey, whoa, whoa

Tracey Winbush was recommended unanimously by the county’s 36-member Republican Party executive committee to serve on the Mahoning County Board of Elections. She must be appointed by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted, a Republican, after successful completion of a background check.  She doesn’t fit the GOP mold as a conservative corporate worshipping angry white man. She is instead a conservative corporate worshiping angry black woman who is willing to be used as a token by angry white men. She hates facts, hates President Obama, hates Moslems, hates environmentalists, and rudely interrupts and shouts down callers with opposing views. Those qualities and the fact she thinks some factions don’t deserve to vote will make her an ideal Mahoning County Board of Elections member in Jon Husted’s view. You remember Jon who wanted to cut the days and hours  Ohioans  could vote in the last election.

Maybe Tracey’s “Friends” could help with her job. Sticks who is an angry white man with an angry white woman’s voice could dispense his wisdom. He could talk about how climate change and tobacco’s link to cancer are junk science, but creationism should be taught in schools. Ben would say, “That, um, the president is a Kenyan born anti-Christ, Lenin, Hitler, socialist, Marxist, communist, fascist, Moslem who hates America.” Ben is a God-loving conservative American who believes a woman can’t be trusted with decisions about her own body, but multi-national corporations can make decisions affecting all mankind without regulations. Friend Jeff would add, “Jesus loves you, and shares your hatred of homosexuals and Hillary Clinton.” He’d add “We need to stop the teaching of liberal ideas like science and geometry in schools and put the Bible and Ten Commandments back in schools.” Their favorite caller Home School Dad could add, “The Earth is only 5,000 years old and Jesus rode a Triceratops not a donkey.” I am glad that Home School Dad stays on the phone for hours as that is time he isn’t teaching his kids his insane ideas. Since the area GOP would even consider a lout who has no regard for others opinions be put on an election board it is this week’s winner of area buffoon of the week.

If you want more area hate, lies, spin and insanity tune in to Dan Rivers morning talk radio show at WKBN. On any given morning you can hear Teabagger Dan trashing illegal immigrants. If only we could go back in time and keep the Rivers family and the Limbaugh, Beck, Hannity, O’Reilly, Coulter, Reagan, Bush, Rove, families out what a better country we would now have. Dan is a big fan of Russian immigrant author Ayn Rand. Mr. Rivers recently had on the producer that turned her book, “Atlas Shrugged” into a movie. Dan like her followers believes that greed is not only a virtue but patriotic. Her idea of a Utopia was a world in which we’re only thinking about ourselves and have no regard for anyone else. The heroes of her novels “Atlas Shrugged” and “Fountainhead” were modeled after one of her real life heroes. That was sadistic serial killer, William Edward Hickman, who in 1927 dismembered a 12-year-old girl named Marion Parker. Rand filled notebooks with worshipping praise of Hickman. She admired his sociopathic qualities. “Other people do not exist for him, and he does not see why they should,” she wrote, gushing that Hickman had “no regard whatsoever for all that society holds sacred, and with a consciousness all his own. He has the true, innate psychology of a Superman. He can never realize and feel ‘other people.'” She used a similar description of Howard Roark, the hero of her novel “The Fountainhead.” That book is Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas’ favorite book — he even requires his clerks to read it.

Rand was an atheist who worshipped only free market capitalism. She wanted corporations to have little or no government regulations. She hated government and had no use for it. She defended tobacco companies claiming that scientific research on the dangers of tobacco was a hoax. She had the cancer of greed her whole life but in 1974 she got lung cancer from smoking two-packs a day. In the end a tobacco company was killing her and she needed help so she turned to the government programs of Social Security and Medicare. Teabaggers like Rivers, Paul Ryan and Rand Paul ignore the hypocrisy of Ayn Rand turning to the government and celebrate her philosophies of greed and self-interest.

Speaking of Senator Rand Paul this week he got nasty interrogating Secretary of State Hillary Clinton. The U.S. Senate was questioning Hillary about Benghazi where Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three others were killed.  Republicans are criticizing the Obama administration saying our embassy in Benghazi should have had more security. I find that hypocrisy since the House Republicans consciously voted to reduce the funds allocated to the State Department for embassy security since winning the majority in 2010. Rand Paul said Hillary should have been fired and that this is the worst tragedy since 9/11. I’m not dismissing four lost lives but I guess Rand forgot about all the lives lost going to war with Iraq over the lie of weapons of mass destruction.  I guess he doesn’t know that under George W. Bush 11 U.S. Embassies were attacked resulting in 55 deaths and 90 injuries. Maybe Rand Paul’s toupee was on so tight it blocked circulation to his brain. For his memory loss I give Rand Paul the national buffoon of the week award.

I had someone ask me why I keep picking on local people like: Dan Rivers, Tracey Winbush and Warren Tribune Chronicle Editor, Frank Robinson. It is because the best place to start to battle ignorance, spin and lies is in your own backyard. I often talk about wanting to make a better world for our kids but here are five kids working to make a better world for all of us.
